inktype for Mac

Your handwriting, as a Mac font

inktype turns a page of your handwriting into a real OpenType font. Fill in a printed sheet, photograph or scan it, and install the font from inside the app. It shows up in every app that uses your installed fonts.

Four steps

How it works

  1. Print the capture sheetDownload the sheet from the app and pick its language. There are 18, written in Latin, Cyrillic or Greek letters.
  2. Write one character per boxUse any dark pen, fineliner or marker. Keep each letter inside its dashed box.
  3. Photograph or scan the pageCapture the whole sheet. The corner markers let the app straighten the page and find every letter.
  4. Install your fontAdjust size, position, spacing and ink against a live preview, then click Install. To use the font somewhere else, Export… saves it as OTF, TTF, WOFF or WOFF2.

Projects that save as you work

Each scan becomes a project. Your edits are saved as you make them, and a project exports as one .inktype file.

Install from the app

Click Install and the font is ready in every app on this Mac, without opening Font Book.

Installed Fonts window

See every font you installed from inktype, and reactivate or remove any of them.

Sandboxed

The app runs in the macOS App Sandbox and reads only the files you choose.
